Redstone Arsenal will change the operating hours at three of its access control points (gates) Monday morning, Jan. 27.

These changes are necessary to accommodate the reduction in guard force authorizations which were directed by the Installation Management Command.

“As we implement directed manpower reductions, we must reassess how we provide services and rebalance mission requirements with resources,” Garrison commander Col. Bill Marks said. “Changes to our gates always create inconvenience and frustration for everyone involved so it will take teamwork and patience to work through this.”

Access control points are an integral part of Redstone Arsenal’s comprehensive security organization.

“Our priority remains the safety and security of our workforce and our Arsenal as we continue to right-size our force structure,” Marks said.

Gate 8 will be closed Monday through Friday but will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 5:30 a.m. until midnight. Gates 3 and 7 will be open for incoming and outgoing traffic from 5:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. but will only be open for outgoing traffic after that. Gate 3 will be closed to outgoing traffic at 6 p.m. and Gate 7 will be closed to outgoing traffic at 9 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“Our security guards are true professionals who daily perform one of our most important functions,” Mike Sheehy, director of emergency services, said. “A big part of Redstone Arsenal’s recent success is directly related to the exceptional security that we can provide for our tenants and we should thank our guards each day.”

The hours and services at all other gates are unchanged.

Marks also said future changes to the gates may become necessary as the guard force continues to draw down to authorized levels.

“We continually assess how we provide our services and will make the appropriate adjustments as are warranted,” he said.

Gate hours currently are:

• Gate 1 Martin Road East – 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Closed weekends.
