The Redstone Test Center has taken a giant leap through process improvements.

The center received the Non-Enterprise Level (Black Belt) Project Team Award at the annual Lean Six Sigma Excellence Awards Program, or LEAP, on Jan. 11.

This prestigious award highlighted the work of Lt. Col. Gregory Fortier, former commander of the Aviation Flight Test Directorate, where he led the “Aviator Training Hour Reduction” process improvement initiative. His efforts resulted in a 61 percent reduction in quarterly training flight hours and a cost avoidance of $13 million through fiscal 2018.

Army Test and Evaluation Command, the parent command of RTC, also received the AR 10-87 Level Organizational Development award.

The LEAP program is designed to recognize outstanding contributions to Lean Six Sigma initiatives, increase awareness of the program, promote process improvements, and ensure the dissemination of best practices/lessons learned through the Army. (Redstone Test Center release)
