This is a great time of year for us avid sports fans.

We have football. We have basketball. We have hockey. And we’re still feasting on the just completed baseball World Series.

That’s especially true if you’re an Atlanta Braves fan like me. Our team won the Series for the first time since 1995.

I know you’re probably smirking while reading this. I was a Chicago Cubs fan until they fell apart and traded all their stars at the trade deadline since the All-Star break. At that point, I returned to the legions of Braves faithful. I left that flock before the 2016 season after the Braves traded all their stars and entered rebuilding mode. I needed a new team to root for and I happened to choose the Cubs, just before they won their first world title since 1908.

I cheered for the Braves when they made key trades to replenish their outfield after star Ronald Acuna Jr. was lost for the year with a knee injury. I cheered when they got hot at the right time and advanced to the Series as an underdog. This was a resilient team of destiny which proved all the doubters wrong.

I still have my Cubs cap but I’m shopping for a Braves hat now. I just wish their trademark A didn’t look so much like the one worn by that football team in Tuscaloosa. Of course, I’ll always root for my alma mater Auburn. That will never change.
