Huntsville’s senior softball players deserve better.
Throughout the summer and into the fall, they dealt with more than just trying to win their games in the 55-and-over Rockets league in Huntsville Senior Softball. Their field lights at Brahan Spring Park didn’t always work. As a result, some games had to be canceled and the schedules adjusted.
Last week was supposed to be the final week of the fall season. But the games scheduled Nov. 1 were canceled because the lights at field 1 weren’t working.
Chris Maggio, the league director, said that night he would try to do a makeup game Nov. 8 just to get everybody together.
This was not the first time he had to resort to a contingency plan.
“The field 2 lights went out halfway during the summer season,” he said. “And we had to condense the schedule to play on one field only. And the lights are still not fixed over there (on field 2).
“We had to condense the schedule to play on one field which shortened our season. The lights went out one time in the beginning of the fall season on field 1. This is the second time they went out on this field.”
The fields obviously aren’t being maintained as they should. The lights should have been put back on and taken care of by now, especially on field 2.
