The joke at the Redstone MWR Library is their award says small garrison just so some of the other libraries had a chance to win.

The library has received the Excellence in Army Recreation 2019 Small Garrison Library and info services centers award.

This is the library’s first time to enter the contest in four or five years, according to Librarian Nate Godwin.

Redstone’s MWR Library was the top-ranked library for e-book checkouts among all MWR libraries with over 31,000 titles borrowed, and the library ranked number one in audiobooks as well.

“We have so many commuters here that people tend to have to listen to audiobooks on their drives,” Godwin said.

The library has more than just books. They offer videogame rentals, new release movies, and more, too.

“We’re a library, we just give away stuff for free,” Godwin said.

Right now, the library has several craft and STEM programs.

Its next big event will be Christmas Cookies and Crafts on the first Saturday in December.

The free, family event will be from 1-3 p.m. at the library, building 3323 on Redeye Road.

The library will provide patrons with everything needed for each person to decorate one cookie and make a craft while supplies last.
