There is good news and bad news for residents of building 4488.

Bad news first: the cafeteria is temporarily closed. But don’t start packing a PB&J yet because Garrison and CCDC Aviation & Missile Center employees whose offices are located in the building have dining options.

“Employees can access both the Lakeside Café and the Grab & Go at (Army Materiel Command headquarters). The Grab & Go at AMC has a Starbucks operation in it that employees can

use,” Ed Nunn, chief of Family and MWR’s Business Operations Division, said.

Lunchtime options abound on post – from Redstone Gateway eateries outside Gate 9 to the pizza buffet at Redstone Lanes to the Java Cafe in the Pershing Welcome Center. But sometimes employees have only a short time to grab a bite and are looking for lunch close to the office. AMC headquarters is just a short sidewalk trek and the Lakeside Cafe serves up classic fare like burgers and sandwiches that patrons can enjoy under a covered pavilion by the pond.

Employees can also head in the opposite direction and partake of the food trucks at the corner of Rideout and Martin roads. The NASA Food Truck Corral’s rotating schedule gives diners a variety with different trucks participating Monday through Friday. Operating hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and each day’s truck schedule is

Garrison Commander Col. Kelsey Smith announced at the Garrison All Hands meeting Aug. 27 that the cafeteria closing is temporary and that a new eatery will open in the fall. But

until then employees can rest

assured they won’t go hungry and still have conveniently-located options available.
