Hunter orientation.jpg

Pumpkin spice is in the air, college football is back on the gridiron and it’s time to get ready for hunting season on Redstone.

Outdoor Recreation kicked off their hunter orientations Thursday on Facebook. There is another session scheduled for Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m. The page can be found at www.facebook.com/RedstoneMWR.

This orientation is required for anyone who wants to hunt on Redstone and hunters will have to verify they have viewed the one-hour course when they come to purchase their permit at Outdoor Rec.

There is no cost for the class, but hunting permits are $50.

Redstone follows the state of Alabama when it comes to hunting season, according to Tom Pyburn, with Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

Specific dates can be found at www.outdooralabama.com/hunting/seasons-and-bag-limits.

In order to purchase a hunting permit, hunters need:

• Alabama state hunting license

• Any state’s hunter education certificate (more information can be found regarding local classes at www.outdoorAlabama.com)

• Redstone Arsenal hunter orientation

• Redstone Arsenal weapon permit for all shotguns and muzzleloaders

All contractors must have a signed contractor employment form.

Also, hunters must have completed a state-certified hunter education class and no one is grandfathered from this regulation.

Information on state classes is available at www.outdoorAlabama.com.

Local information is available at www.RedstoneMWR.com or 876-HUNT (4868).
