Nothing like a leisurely stroll in the great outdoors. Judging from last year’s response, Redstone community members agree.
The second annual Redstone Volksmarch is Aug. 24 from 8-11 a.m. at Vincent Park. Participants can walk a 2, 3 or 5 mile course.
Sports, Fitness & Aquatics and Outdoor Recreation, both within the Garrison’s Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, are teaming together to present this event which drew about 225 participants last year.
“We had such an overwhelming response last year that we wanted to make it an annual event,” Gaylene Wilson, chief of Recreation Division, said. “And we also wanted to kick off our Oktoberfest (scheduled Sept. 12-15 at the Redstone Activity Field).”
Lori Ciranni, director of Sports, Fitness & Aquatics, has the lead.
“It’s a great way to come out and do something healthy that’s fun,” Ciranni said. “You can socialize with a bunch of people. You can bring your whole family including your pet, your dog. We provide refreshments at the end. And just a great way to be out in nature.”
Registration that day starts at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 8. Cost is $8 per person through Aug. 21 or $10 on event day. This is open to the Redstone community and recreational pass holders.
