The Garrison’s Kara Malone felt humbled by the recognition she received.

Malone, chief of the contracts branch in the engineering division at Directorate of Public Works, was among the honorees at the “Redstone Women Who Rock!” luncheon Aug. 8 at The Summit. The North Alabama Chapter of the Federally Employed Women honored nominees and winners in various award categories.

Malone won the Redstone Rising Star Award. According to this award’s criteria, nominees should be civilian or military women serving Redstone with 3-10 years in their career who demonstrate significant organizational contributions, initiative and leadership abilities.

“I’ve just been doing my job,” Malone said. “I’ve just been working to try and better our organization. But it’s an honor to receive this award for it.”

The Garrison’s other nominees included Christina Fults, for the Redstone Rising Star Award; and Bea Floor, Zinnah Hellmann and Kaela Hamby, all for the Leadership Achievement Award.

Leadership Achievement Award – Kathy Drysdale, Apache Attack Helicopter Project Office, Program Executive Office for Aviation; Kathy Jordan, Army Contracting Command; Sue Knapp, PEO Aviation; Freida Lowery, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center; and Chandra Palanichamy, Missile Defense Agency

Meritorious Military Service Award – Sgt. 1st Class Alicia Codie, Security Assistance Command

Redstone Rising Star Award – Kara Malone, Garrison
