If the increasingly warm and sunny weather has you thinking about swimming pool time, the wait is almost over.

The Goss Road outdoor pools are set to open May 25, said Jon Pierce, aquatic director. From opening day through Aug. 5, the pool will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. After Aug. 5 through Labor Day, the pool will only be open on weekends.

“We see a little bit of everybody at the pool,” Pierce said. “We have retirees, and a lot of children like it because of the shallow end.”

The pool ranges in depth from 3 to 12 feet, he said. There’s a slide, and on the deeper end of the pool there is a diving area which features two diving boards, a 3-meter and 1-meter.

The Kiddy Pool with its mushroom water fountain is also a big hit with children 6 and under.

For those who need a little shade from the sun while their kids are having fun, there’s a covered pavilion area, Pierce said.

“This year we’re doing things a little different due to the change in hours at the Aquatics Center for lap swimmers,” Pierce said. “To give another option for people who want to swim laps in the afternoon, we’re going to have the Goss Road pool open for lap swimmers between 4 and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”

He said only the deeper end, from 6 to 12 feet deep, will be closed to everyone except lap swimmers for an hour and a half on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“The pool is open to civilians, contractors and anyone with the recently purchased recreation pass,” Pierce said. “Anyone with access to the base can use the pool.”

Before opening day, pool passes may be purchased in advance at the Aquatics Center, building 3705 on Aerobee Road. On and after May 25, passes will be available onsite at the Goss Road pool, building 126 on Goss Road.

The cost for active duty is $50 for an individual season pass, $100 for a family season pass, or $3 per daily visit. For all others, it’s $100 for the individual season pass, $150 for a family season pass, or a $4 daily fee. The guest fee is $5 per guest.
