After a slow first half of the season, Hit Circus has turned things around since the Memorial Day week break.
The surge continued with a 15-10 win over rival Got the Runs, June 17 at NASA softball field 1. Hit Circus improved to 3-4 with its second straight victory in Division A.
“We’re finally starting to put it together here inning to inning,” shortstop/coach Tony Fiorucci said. “We’ve had problems this year not being consistent throughout the game. And last couple of games we’ve started hitting the ball consistently throughout and pushing across some runs here. And our defense has been solid so we’re not giving up cheap runs.”
Chris Schultz, Blake McBride and Bert Young had three hits apiece for Hit Circus. Vic Pritchett had two hits with a two-run double. Jonathan Grizzard also had two hits.
Michael Barger pitched all seven innings for the win. Hit Circus scored two runs in the top of the first and led 5-1 entering the third.
Got the Runs (2-5) was led by David Whitener, who went 3-for-4 and scored twice. Carl Williams, Aaron Mair, Reagan Hollenbeck and Harrison Cooper added two hits apiece. Mair took the loss.
“We had late offense and a couple of untimely errors in the field,” Got the Runs player/coach Jay Hollenbeck said. “We’re looking forward to the playoffs.”
