Now that youth basketball season’s over, let’s head outside to the bullpen and batting cage.

There’s still time to sign up for little league baseball. Youngsters age 5-13, boys are girls, are invited to register for Redstone’s teams which will compete in the Huntsville recreation league.

Practice is expected to start Saturday and the season begins the first week in April and continues to around Memorial Day, May 25. Redstone teams play their home games at the baseball fields on Goss Road.

“We’re working toward one team in each age group,” Mike Gates, youth sports director said. Ages 5-6 is T-ball, 7-8 is coach pitch, and 9-13 is baseball.

Volunteer coaches are always welcome. If interested call Gates at 313-3699.

“Baseball’s America’s pastime, right?” Gates said of why people should participate.

Register youngsters for baseball at Parent Central Services in the Pershing Welcome Center, building 3443, on Aerobee Road. Its hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 876-3704.
