The Boomers were ready to end this game with the 10-run rule.
So they scored seven in the bottom of the fifth inning and did just that.
Boomers beat Got the Runs, 14-4 on June 10 at NASA softball field 2 and improved to 2-4 in Division A.
“The team came alive in the bottom of the fifth and took it home,” player/coach Eric Widell said. “It was a really fun game. And our defense performed well.”
Widell walloped a two-run home run over the left field fence in the fourth. He went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Leadoff hitter Rod Hambrick went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs. Connor Brown was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Doug Tucker had two hits with a double and four RBIs. Jacob Stitz added two hits and three runs. Jay Jarrell pitched the win.
Travis Garrett was 3-for-3 with a triple and two doubles for Got the Runs (2-4). Daniel Walker and pitcher Aaron Mair added two hits apiece.
“We had a tough time at the plate,” Garrett, the shortstop, said. “Couldn’t string many hits together and had a few unlucky bounces. Turned out to be a tough day all around.”
