The defending champion Mavericks were scheduled to play Almost Semi-Pro last Thursday for the A division basketball title. But concerns about the coronavirus pandemic changed plans.

“Championships are canceled as a community COVID-19 precaution,” Marshall league’s Bob Gillis said.

The Mavericks were 15-3 while Almost Semi-Pro advanced to the final at 12-6. The canceled consolation game had Space Jam (15-5) against Trashed Pandas (10-8).

“It would’ve been good to finish out the season but I know with everything that’s going on with the coronavirus, people’s safety comes first,” Mavericks player/coach Mike Baez said.

“It was a fun season, it was a good season. The season was a lot more competitive. You had some good teams. It would’ve been nice to see the competitive season end with a champion for the A league and a champion for the B league.”
