After two opening losses, the ASSISTs team sought their first wins of the season Thursday.
Their players achieved that goal by working together.
ASSISTs beat KAOS, 21-25, 25-16, 15-11 on the east volleyball court at the Marshall Wellness Center. They beat the previously unbeaten Flying Pengins in the nightcap, 25-16, 25-19.
“It was teamwork. Simple,” player/coach Cara Black said. “Pushing it deep as Carl (Crutcher) would say.”
Ed Grimble had five kills, four digs and two aces for ASSISTs (2-2). Carl Crutcher had six kills, four digs and four aces. Matt Bower had four kills and two aces. Mark Black made eight digs and three kills. Sean Rivers slammed five kills. Antwan Harris added three kills while Cara Black had three digs.
“Two and two,” Grimble said of evening their record.
The Flying Penguins beat KAOS, 25-9, 25-13 in Thursday’s first match. Alex Thomas had eight kills for the Flying Penguins (3-1). Player/coach Alex Allen made three kills and three aces. John Rogers slammed five kills while Ben Craigmyle had four. Cori Fletcher had five digs and three kills.
“Every game started off good and tight,” Allen said. “At certain points our serves were just going in a lot better.”
Billy Carson had 16 kills and four digs for KAOS (2-4). Pat Sumera had three kills and three digs. Stacy Mitchell made eight digs and two aces. Player/coach Dennis Gallagher added four digs and two kills.
“Early season,” Gallagher said. “We’ll get better.”
