Once they get started, We Dem Boyz are hard to stop.
That was the case again June 24 when the three-time defending champions of Division A beat the runner-up Hit Circus, 22-13 on NASA softball field 1.
Tybo Butler blasted a pair of three-run homers for We Dem Boyz (7-1). He went 3-for-5 with a run-scoring double, seven runs batted in and four runs scored.
Winning pitcher Marius “Doc” Dockery went 4-for-4 with three runs. Michael Harris, Vincent Fails, Martin Vann and Andrew Broadfoot added three hits apiece. Leadoff hitter Austen Young had two hits and three runs.
“We started hitting the ball good,” player/coach Brad Harris said. “We started making plays on defense. Total team effort.”
Jeff Klop went 3-for-3 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs for Hit Circus (3-5). Cory Efird was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs. Player/coach Tony Fiorucci went 2-for-2 with two runs. Michael Barger took the loss.
“When you play a team as good as they are, you have to consistently score runs,” Fiorucci said. “We put up a couple of goose eggs. That makes a difference. Nine-run game, you’ve got to keep scoring runs.”
