This figured to be a close game in round one of the coed Division B-1 tournament.
Hit to Kill and the Renegades both went 7-3 in the regular season. Hit to Kill was seeded higher after winning their matchup before the playoffs.
Bryan Gorham hit a three run inside-the-park home run as Hit to Kill won their tournament opener 15-9 on July 31 at NASA softball field 2. His shot to right center capped a four-run bottom of the second inning for an 11-7 lead.
“We had some really good fielding plays,” Hit to Kill player/coach Erin Gill said. “And everybody hit.”
Gorham went 3-for-3 with seven runs batted in and two runs scored. Connor Brown was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and four runs. Winning pitcher Duane Mize had two hits with a run-scoring triple and three runs.
Renegades leadoff hitter Mike Beck had three hits with a home run and two RBIs. Corey Harrell was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Jim Lomas took the loss.
“In the last few innings we just couldn’t get our bats going,” Renegades player/coach Preston Cupp said. “We played a decent game. We just couldn’t make plays when we needed to. Left too many runners on base.”
The Renegades (7-4) stranded nine baserunners in six innings. Hit to Kill (8-3) left eight runners on base in five.
