It was just over eight years ago but it seems like yesterday.

College basketball juggernauts Kentucky and Kansas met April 2, 2012, for the national championship at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. As usual I was rooting for Kentucky, the Southeastern Conference representative.

Thankfully, Anthony Davis and the Wildcats won 67-59. Kentucky outscored the Jayhawks 41-27 in the first half.

“They did it with defense. Unbelievable defense that first half,” Kentucky coach John Calipari said. Davis was named the most outstanding player.

This was Calipari’s first national championship in four trips to the Final Four, having previously gone there with Kentucky in 2011, Memphis in 2008 and Massachusetts in 1996.

Kentucky celebrated its eighth championship and first since 1998. Go SEC!
