Cory Green didn’t touch a basketball for six months after tearing his left Achilles tendon last year.

He played three games in the regular season this year for Space Jam but hadn’t played in more than a month when he tried a comeback March 10 in a playoff game against RTC.

“I felt pretty good today so I came back with a vengeance and I wanted to do my best,” he said.

Green had 10 points, five rebounds and two assists in Space Jam’s 70-59 win over RTC at the Marshall Wellness Center.

“I couldn’t let my team down anymore,” the guard said. “It was more so mental.”

He played for Lee High School from 2006-09 and for Motlow State from 2009-11.

Jamaine Nance had 19 points and eight rebounds for Space Jam (15-5). Will Holden had 14 points and three rebounds. Mikhail George added 10 points and three rebounds. Player/coach Byrd Hayes had seven points, five rebounds and two assists.

“We changed our defense (from a 2-3 zone) and went man-to-man,” Byrd said. “That was midway in the second half. And then it just started clicking. Everything started working out.”

Space Jam led 37-32 at halftime. They built a 54-46 lead with 12 minutes left but were up just 56-54 at 9:10. Their man-to-man defense sparked a 10-3 run for a 66-57 cushion with three minutes left.

RTC player/coach Juan Hall had 17 points on five 3-pointers with seven rebounds and two assists. Sheldon Smith had 11 points and three rebounds. Patrick Arterburn had 10 points and five rebounds. Jonathan McCord had 10 points and six rebounds as Redstone Test Center finished at 7-11.

“We were a little short-handed tonight but everyone played hard and left it all out there just like every game this year,” Hall said. “I’d like to thank all of my teammates for taking the time to play this season.”

Trashed Pandas 56, Blouses 31: Chase Pendley scored 19 on three 3-pointers as Trashed Pandas advanced and eliminated the Blouses.

Nick Haas had 11 and Hunter Olive added 10 for Trashed Pandas (10-8). They led 32-15 at halftime and cruised.

Josh Hillis had 13 as the Blouses finished at 11-8.

Marske & Crutch 46, Court Controllers 45: Kelvin McComb scored 17 as Marske & Crutch won the C division round-robin tournament.

Point guard James Whitehead had 10 on three 3-pointers and directed the offense.

“He’s just good,” guard Bob Gillis said. “He moves the ball around, gets everybody their shots.”

Marske & Crutch went 3-0 in the tournament and finished 9-10 overall.

“We play as a team. We pass the ball,” Gillis said. “We played zone (defense) almost the whole year.”

Reggie Bishop had 16 and Alysse Bishop 13 for Court Controllers (2-17).

Monstars 54, Hard Knox 53: Adam Molloy had 16 in the last game of the C division tournament.

Keith Clements added 15, Antwan Harris 13 and Spencer Matonis 10 for Monstars (5-14).

“We were down by as much as 14 in the second half,” Matonis, the center, said. “And we won by one point with five players. It was a grand finale.”

Jacob Patterson had 17, Quinn Jackson 11 and Kyle Knox 10 for Hard Knox (8-11).
