The Blouses used their height to their advantage.
Their formidable front line powered a 57-53 win over Almost Semi-Pro on Jan. 27 at the Marshall Wellness Center. This opened the sixth week of action in the Marshall basketball league.
“Just played tough defense, rebounded and made free throws at the end of the game,” Blouses player/coach Josh Hillis said.
Justin Wright had 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and blocked two shots for the Blouses (6-3). Andrew Jones had 16 points with two 3-pointers. Hillis contributed 13 points and seven rebounds. Chris Loepker had 13 rebounds and two assists.
Blouses built an 18-7 lead seven minutes into the game but were up just 30-29 at halftime. Almost Semi-Pro closed within 56-53 with 16 seconds left. Wright’s free throw ended the scoring.
Mitchell Dickinson had a game-high 24 points with two 3-pointers for Almost Semi-Pro (3-6). He had four rebounds and two steals.
“We kept it close at the end,” Dickinson, team co-captain, said. “Just didn’t have enough.”
Co-captain Nathan Sowada added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Zach Ruta had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
“We just didn’t have enough size,” Sowada said. “We gave up too many easy buckets.”
Space Jam 92, Hard Knox 70: Will Holden poured in 35 points with nine 3-pointers for the league leaders.
Cory Green scored 22 for Space Jam (8-1) while Mikhail George had 20. Adam Kimbro added 12 with two 3-pointers.
Erik Hatton had 28 with eight 3-pointers for Hard Knox (4-5). James Mavo added 10.
Hot Cheese Soup 67, Court Controllers 38: Travis Eakin scored 30 with five 3-pointers for Hot Cheese Soup (5-4).
Chase Clinard had 16. Chad Bigoney added 15 on five 3-pointers.
Shawn Finnegan scored 14 with four 3-pointers for Court Controllers (1-8).
