I rolled up to Albertville High about an hour before game time March 12.

As a senior citizen, a ripe old 66, it was a no-brainer where I was heading first. Nope, it wasn’t the gym. I had to find a restroom after my hour’s drive from Huntsville.

That mission completed. I drove around the school and found a parking spot in front of the gymnasium. The games were already underway for the state 12-and-under basketball tournament March 12-14.

The Redstone team had a great start in pool play with a 44-12 win over Hamilton. But the next day proved disappointing.

Redstone lost to Abbeville 43-30 in the first round of single elimination so Redstone was done. The Yellow Jackets just had six players but they were big, aggressive and talented.

Trussville ended up winning the state title by routing Gadsden-Wolves, 53-18 on March 14.

The Alabama Recreation and Parks Association did a great job conducting the tournament for 12U boys teams from throughout the state. Hats off to ARPA and Albertville High.
