The Netropy players got pushed to the limit in their second-round match in Division A volleyball tournament.

But they prevailed against KAOS 25-17, 23-25, 15-12 on Thursday on the west court at Marshall Wellness Center. Netropy (2-2) advanced to this week’s semifinals.

“We worked hard,” Netropy captain Mallory Johnston said. “We came together. We did our best to stay calm. But really KAOS is a great team.”

Kirk Johnson had 10 kills and three aces. Kyle Cossey had three kills and three blocks. Jarrod King made four kills and two digs. Preston Plese had two aces and five digs. Johnston added two aces and four digs.

Tim Duquette had 11 kills and two digs for KAOS. Billy Carson made four aces, two kills and four digs. Jim Hartmann had three kills and three digs. Stacy Mitchell and Sarah Champey made three digs apiece. Team captain Dennis Gallagher served two aces.

“Making too many simple mistakes,” Gallagher said.

But he saw his team reduce their miscues in the nightcap when they eliminated the Rocket City Raptors 25-21, 27-25.

“We handled the ball better. We talked better,” Gallagher said. “We were more in the right place.”

Carson had seven kills for KAOS (2-2). Hartmann had four aces, two kills and two digs. Mitchell made three aces and two digs. Gallagher served three aces while Becky Crownover had two. Lindsey Ingram made two kills.

Max VanKeuren had three kills, three aces and three digs for the Rocket City Raptors (0-4). Ellie Pollock served five aces while Jason Bosworth had four kills. Team captain Adam Butt had two kills and two aces.

“It was fun,” Butt said. “Unfortunate but fun.”

Flying Penguins eliminated Energizers 25-17, 25-16 in the night’s second match.

Alex Thomas had seven kills for the Flying Penguins (2-2). Team captain Alex Allen had six kills. Eddie Davidson made three aces and two kills. John Rogers had three kills and two digs. Cori Fletcher added two kills and two digs. Melody Hinkle had two aces and four digs.

“Just a good tight match,” Allen said. “And we were just able to get the better sets to finish it off.”

Team captain Harold Gerrish had 10 kills and three digs for the Energizers (2-3). Anna Gaffin had three digs while Bob Gaffin served two aces.

“Other team played pretty good,” Gerrish said. “Other team played better.”
