I know injuries happen in sports. But this one really hurt.

When LeBron James went down with a high ankle sprain, my thoughts immediately shifted from the NBA to baseball season.

My beloved Los Angeles Lakers had just lost the world’s best player for significant time. They were already treading water during the absence of injured star Anthony Davis.

Now they had to make do without LeBron. The defending champion’s chances of a repeat took a devastating blow.

March Madness is a nice diversion, particularly with some success by Southeastern Conference teams. But I’m definitely more focused on the fortunes of LA’s purple and gold.

There’s still hope of course. But I’m just not as optimistic about the Lakers without their two superstars.

So it’s time for some baseball fever. I hope the friendly confines of Wrigley Field celebrates plenty of Ws. Let’s go Cubs!
