Easter Sunday was extra special for longtime golfer Rick Cooper.

The retired command sergeant major made his first hole-in-one April 4 at the Links. He aced hole No. 3, a par-3, on the Patriot course. Cooper hit from 139 yards with a choke-down, 8-iron.

“This is my first one ever at the age of 61,” Cooper, a physical space analyst for the Garrison’s Directorate of Public Works, said. “I probably started (playing golf) when I was 28 off and on at Fort Bragg in the 82nd Airborne Division.”

Witnesses included Mark Morrison, Billy Jackson and Jim Moentmann.

“This is a bucket list item like going to the Masters and going to Alaska,” Cooper said.
