The two-time defending champion Space Station Spikers had a tough match Thursday night.
But the Spikers pulled away late in both games to beat Hoodoo Voodoo, 25-19, 25-17 on the west court at the Marshall Wellness Center. The Spikers have won the past two upper-division championships in the Marshall coed volleyball league.
“I think we played well,” player/coach Alysse Bishop said. “I think we had good teamwork and a lot of hustle.
“There were some moments where we weren’t talking. But once we started communicating with each other we were able to take control.”
Andrew Walters had seven kills and four digs for the Space Station Spikers (2-0). Shawn Roberts, Shawn Finnegan and Spenser Kockler had three kills apiece. Bishop and Finnegan served two aces apiece. Roberts made two digs.
Matt Rhodes had two aces, three digs and two blocks for Hoodoo Voodoo (1-2). Brooke Rhodes had two kills and seven digs. Eric Osborne made two aces, two kills and three digs.
“We fought hard but we just played a better team tonight,” Hoodoo Voodoo coach Roger Bunnell said.
