Turkey shoot preview

It’s time for a turkey shoot.

Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is holding its annual turkey shoot Dec. 19

The event will take place at the Outdoor Recreation Range, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Contestants will shoot their shotguns, either 12 or 20 gauge, at paper targets from 30 yards away, and the pellet closest to the bull’s-eye each round will win a turkey.

This year shooters will be socially distanced and Outdoor Recreation’s guns will be sanitized after each round.

Face masks will be required when 6 feet of social distancing can’t be maintained.

The family-friendly event has become a tradition, and children can participate with adult supervision.

Participants are being reminded that personal firearms must be registered with Redstone Arsenal’s Directorate of Operations, Law Enforcement Division.

The entry fee is $4 per round and there’s no official signup. Participants just need to show up. And if you want to participate but don’t have shotgun, call Outdoor Recreation at 876-4868.
