After winning a flag football championship, the Trashed Pandas struggled when they moved inside to the basketball court.
They were 1-3 before the holidays in the Marshall league. But they found success when the season resumed Thursday in the Marshall Wellness Center.
Colby Crossfield scored 11 points, with three 3-pointers, as the Trashed Pandas beat Hard Knox, 61-40. The small forward also had four rebounds and three assists.
“I enjoyed it,” he said. “It’s good to get back after break and hang out with the guys, have some fun.”
The 11 points was his season high. “The guys got me the ball when I was open,” he said. Crossfield played high school basketball at Madison Academy from 2011-13.
Player/coach Matt Pensa had 10 points, three rebounds and two assists for the Trashed Pandas (2-3). Chase Pendley had 10 points, 12 rebounds and two assists. Joe Keywood added eight points and 12 rebounds.
“We started the season pretty slow,” Pensa said. “But we got some good rest over Christmas break and we’re starting to come together as a team.”
The Trashed Pandas led 32-15 at halftime and stayed in control.
Erik Hatton and Jacob Patterson scored 10 points apiece for Hard Knox (2-2). Hatton had eight rebounds while Patterson had six. John Rogers had eight points, eight rebounds and two steals.
“First game back after the holidays. None of our shots were hitting,” player/coach Kyle Knox said. “So we’re just going to move on, look forward to next week.”
RTC 55, Almost Semi-Pro 42: Julius Lucas had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Redstone Test Center (2-2).
Sheldon Smith scored 11 points. Player/coach Juan Hall had 10 with two 3-pointers. Joey Scott made three assists and three steals.
RTC led 29-27 at halftime and went up 49-33 after intermission.
“Good defense and played good team basketball,” Hall said.
Mitchell Dickinson had 22 points with four 3-pointers, seven rebounds and two steals for Almost Semi-Pro (1-3). Thomas Danek had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
“We started out in 2-3 (zone defense),” Dickinson, the player/coach, said. “On offense we were shooting the ball well in the first half. Then we ran out of gas at the end in the second half. They had a lot of size, too. Once they started knocking down shots, we had to switch to a man (defense).”
Space Jam 71, Hot Cheese Soup 49: Brett Bouldin had 24 points with three 3-pointers for Space Jam (5-0). Mikhail George had 16 points, Jamaine Nance 12 and Trey Triplett 11 with his three 3-pointers.
Chase Clinard had 23 points with three 3-pointers for Hot Cheese Soup (3-2). Ethan Walker had 10 points while Chad Bigoney and Caleb Walker added eight apiece.
Blouses 56, Monstars 47: Justin Wright scored 20 and Joshua Hillis and Chasen Uptain had 15 apiece for Blouses (3-2). They each made three 3-pointers.
Erek Allen had 12 points while Keith Clements and Adam Molloy had 10 apiece for Monstars (1-4).
Mavericks 113, Court Controllers 77: Lee Smith had 32 for the defending champion Mavericks (4-1).
Kenneth Davis had 30 with six 3-pointers. Lorenzo Burks had 19 with six 3-pointers. Willie Wade contributed 13. Adrian Hargrove had 12 with four 3-pointers.
Brett Bouldin scored 22 with four 3-pointers for Court Controllers (1-3). Anthony Bishop had 17 with five 3-pointers. Carlos Barreto added 16.
